Tehran on Thursday called new sanctions by the United States on Iran's banks and elite military guard "worthless", according to DPA. "Such hostile policies and decisions by the US against the Iranian nation are contrary to international norms, therefore worthless and eventually bound to fail like in the past," foreign ministry spokesman Mohammad-Ali Hosseini said in a press statement. The spokesman said the targetted paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps was a "legal and popular body," and said the sanctions could neither stop Iran's progress and development nor weaken the legitimacy of the country's state bodies.
