The Emir of Kuwait has given $3 million (¤2.1 million) to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City for the establishment of a cardiac institute focused on arrhythmias. The gift to fund the Al-Sabah Arrhythmia Institute is expected to be announced Wednesday, The New York Sun reported in its Wednesday editions. It is named for Kuwait's ruler, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad al-Sabah. Arrhythmia is a variation from the normal rhythm of the heart and can cause health problems. Dr. Jonathan Steinberg, the institute's endowed director, said that the institute will offer treatment for «serious and troublesome heart rhythm disturbances.» The institute is scheduled to open in the fall of 2008, the Associated Press reported.
