Workers would be evacuated from Shell's EA oil field, offshore Bayelsa State in the Niger Delta, after militants abducted three expatriates oil workers and four Nigerians, the company said Sunday, according to DPA. Shell's Regional Director, Communications Africa, Olav Ljosne, said those abducted were a Russian, a Croat and a Briton working for an oil service company engaged by Shell. "We are concerned about the safety of the contractor staff and our thoughts are with them and their families at this difficult time," he said. "We are also cooperating with the government, and their employers and supporting efforts for their safe release," Ljosne added. A police source in Bayelsa State, Iniobong Ette, had earlier told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa that the abducted expatriates were a Russian, a Croat and an US national, but Shell said a Briton and not an American was one of the three abducted.
