A Floating desalination plant is expected to arrive in Jeddah by the end of November, authorities said. The plant will pump 30,000 cubic meters of water per day to the city when the floating plant first arrives, and the amount of processed water will increase to 50,000 cubic meters at the beginning of next year. Sources in the Ministry of Water and Electricity told Saudi Gazette that the Ministry will soon increase water pumped by Jeddah's desalination station to 200,000 cubic meters as well. The source said that the project will participate in resolving Jeddah's ongoing water crisis. Eng. Abdurrahman Al-Muhammady, the director of Jeddah's Water Department, said it will soon sign contracts for the new water project. Authorities said the project will ensure greater supply for neighborhoods in eastern Jeddah and the area extending between Al-Rihaily and Asfan in the north, and Old Makkah Road in the south.
