A senior Palestinian official on Wednesday accused Israel of putting obstacles in the path of peace, and called for stronger U.S. intervention. «So far, we see nothing but more Israeli obstacles,» said Nabil Abu Rdeneh, an adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. «The credibility of the U.S. administration depends on the pressure that the U.S. administration is willing to exert on Israel.» He spoke to reporters after Abbas met with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in the West Bank. The Associated Press quoted Abu Rdeneh as saying that the gaps between Israel and the Palestinians remained wide, and that «there is a need for more American effort.»
