Two men were killed Monday in Nigeria's volatile Niger Delta region when youths opened fire on a town amid renewed intra-communal hostilities, according to DPA. Police in Bayelsa State confirmed the incident, which took place in Igbomatoru in the southern Ijaw council area, saying investigations had begun. "The community is deserted as most of the indigenes have fled to neighbouring towns," said Iniobong Ibokette, deputy superintendent of police in the state. Local reports said the incident occurred when some youths that were banished during an intra-communal clash about two years ago, invaded the town in speedboats from exile in Sangana, another council area of the state. The group shot sporadically into the air, forcing unsuspecting villagers to run for their lives. The shooting, which lasted for about five hours, left the two victims dead, the reports said.
