Troops opened fire on a car that tried to speed through a roadblock in northwest Pakistan, killing two suspected militants, an intelligence official said Monday. The shooting happened Sunday in North Waziristan, a militant stronghold near the Afghan border where fighting between guerrillas and troops killed some 250 people in the past week, the Associated Press reported. The car, carrying four men, did not heed a signal to stop for a routine check at a roadblock west of Miran Shah, North Waziristan's main town, the official said. Security forces killed two men while the other two managed to flee, the official said on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media. Troops seized four assault rifles from the car, he said.
