The Sri Lankan navy sunk a ship carrying items for the Tamil rebels off the southern coast on Sunday, dpa quoted a navy spokesman as saying. The ship identified as MV Matshusima was destroyed some 1,700 kilometres off the southern coast of Dondra after a long pursuit from the early hours of Sunday, Commander DKP Dassanayaka said. The officer quoting intelligence reports said the vessel was believed to be transferring high-speed water scooters, sophisticated diving apparatus and high power transmission equipment for the Tamil rebels of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
