UNICEF completed the rebuilding of 52 schools in Aceh since the region was hit by tsunami in December 2004 and handed them over to the Aceh-Nias Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Agency (BRR), ANTARA quoted a spokesman as saying. UNICEF handed three more schools in North Sumatra to BRR which is tasked with rebuilding Aceh province and Nias district in North Sumatra following the deadly tidal wave three years ago, UNICEF representative for Indonesia Gianfranco Rotigliano said here Tuesday. UNICEF had agreed to rebuild 346 schools until 2008 in six districts, namely Pidie, Pidie Jaya, Bireuen, Bener Meriah, South Aceh and Aceh Singkil. All the rebuilt schools had spacious class-rooms, separate toilets for boys and girls and play grounds. The school buildings also had quake-resistant qualities, Rotigliano said.
