Three suspected highway robbers were killed in a shootout with policemen shortly after hijacking a cargo truck in the Philippine capital, a police official said Friday, according to dpa. The shootout erupted before midnight on Thursday in an industrial district in the Manila suburban city of Caloocan, according to police Superintendent Rafael Santiago. Santiago said police launched a raid on a warehouse in the Kaybiga district in Caloocan City after receiving a tip that members of a robbery syndicate had hidden a hijacked cargo truck there. He said a lookout for the group fired at the policemen upon seeing them, triggering the shootout. The lookout and two other suspects were killed, while the police did not suffer any injuries.
