Thanks to the wise policy of the Saudi officials under the leadership of the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the Kingdom has made a remarkable development in the agricultural field. The economic observers and the agricultural organizations view the Kingdom's experience in the agricultural field as unique and successful experience, because the Kingdom has surpassed the stage of self-sufficiency to the stage of exporting so many agricultural products. By the end of 2005 the area allocated for the production of cereals and fodders amounted to 774 hectare, while the area allocated for the production of vegetables amounted to about 115,000 hectare. Fresh vegetable which are cultivated in the Kingdom include tomato, potato, water melon and muskmelon. The Kingdom's agricultural policy aims at ensuring food security as well as realizing a sustainable development in the agricultural sphere and diversification of the productive base. --more
