The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet's weekly session at Alsalam Palace in Jeddah on Monday. At the outset of the session, the King briefed the cabinet on the talks and contacts which he held over the previous days with a number of heads of states and their envoys. The talks dealt with bilateral relations, regional issues and international affairs. In this regard, the Monarch commended his meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian National Authority during which the Kingdom affirmed its support for the achievement of unity among the Palestinian leaderships and the importance of directing peace efforts towards major topics that enable the Palestinian people to regain their rights guaranteed by all treaties, covenants, resolutions and international legitimacy. The King pointed out that the Kingdom welcomed convening the conference of national reconciliation in Somalia in the Kingdom for the completion and achievement of the agreement and hosting and patronizing its signing ceremony. The Kingdom blessed this important achievement, hoping that all Somali factions join the agreement and that all neighboring states of Somalia which have joint interests support it. In a statement to Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the session, the Minister of Culture and Information Iyad bin Amin Madani said that the cabinet stressed in this context that the agreement will put Somalia on the track of stability, security and unity and restore the ability of the Somali people to build their country and society and to perform their role as an active and important member in the region. The agreement will also make Somalia and its land get rid of any attempts of terrorist groups aiming to exploit the situations of fighting and dissension for having a foothold in Somalia. --More
