Police cannot immediately confirm media reports that a helicopter which crashed in Scotland on Saturday, apparently killing at least one person, was registered to former World Rally Champion Colin McRae, according to AP. The crash occurred on land near the home of McRae, 39, a licensed pilot who owns a helicopter and flies in the area, said police, who are yet to confirm a Sky News TV report that the downed helicopter was McRae's. The crash on Saturday afternoon in Lanark badly burned the aircraft, making it impossible for police to immediately identify who owned it. One person was apparently killed, but there were no survivors and at least one other person may have been aboard, a police spokeswoman said. It wasn't immediately known from where the helicopter had taken off or where it was headed. The British Airports Authority said the flight had not originated at the Glasgow or Edinburgh airports. McCrae, who was born in Lanark, is Britain's most well-known rally driver. He lifted the world title in 1995, and was runner-up in 1996, 1997 and 2001. He won 25 races in a World Rally Championship career that ran from 1987 to 2004.
