Several Israeli army tanks and armoured vehicles on Saturday rolled into northern Gaza, storming homes and detaining several Palestinians, witnesses and security sources said, according to dpa. The sources said the Israeli tanks and vehicles stormed the outskirts of Beit Hanoun town in northern Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip. They said that a 16-year-old boy was critically wounded after he was shot in the head. Witnesses claim Israeli army forces accompanied by bulldozers also razed swathes of farmland, adding that four teenagers from Beit Hanoun were detained. The al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad, meanwhile said an Israeli missile was fired at its militants in Gaza's northeast as Israeli helicopters hovered over the area. No one was injured in the incident, the group said in a statement. Earlier in Gaza, Israeli tanks fired artillery shells into north- western Gaza Strip, said witnesses, adding that slight damage was caused to houses in Beit Lahia town. No injuries were reported.
