The International Islamic Jurisprudence Assembly called on Western states and clergy to address the offensive caricatures of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In a statement issued today, the Assembly called on the international community to issue resolutions prohibiting defamation of religions and the dissemination of ideas based on racial hatred. It said that the apology of the government of Sweden to the Secretary General of the OIC on these abuses does not end the responsibility of the Swedish government, calling on the Swedish Government to punish caricature artist Lars Vilks and officials of Nerikes Allahanda paper, affirming the inadmissibility of freedom of expression as a pretext to defame religions.
