"Several" Taliban insurgents were killed and three detained Friday in two incidents in the restive southern Afghan provinces of Helmand and Ghazni, military officials said, according to DPA. Afghan and coalition forces early Friday raided a village in Qara Bagh District of Ghazni province, where Taliban militants were hiding, and killed several Taliban and detained one militant, the US-led coalition said in statement. A separate statement released from the US base in Bagram said, "Early today (Friday) Afghan and Coalition forces killed several suspected militants and detained two others during an operation in Helmand province." The detainees include a suspected militant who was wounded during the course of operations and evacuated for further medical attention, it added. "The forces raided the targeted compounds, located in the Garmser district of the province, and found several caches of opium and multiple weapons on-site, said the statement, adding, "Weapons included several AK-47s, numerous full ammunition vests, a machine gun and several rocket propelled grenades."
