Australian fighter jets on Sunday intercepted a small civilian plane during a Pacific Rim leaders' summit and escorted the plane to land without incident, government agencies said. The Australian Defense Force said in a statement «a small civilian aircraft failed to comply with procedures» that imposed special restrictions for flights over Sydney during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, which ended Sunday, the Associated Press reported. The military dispatched FA-18 fighters, and «the situation was promptly assessed and resolved,» the statement said. A spokesman for government air controller Air Services Australia, speaking on customary condition of anonymity, said the plane had not responded to attempts to contact it. He said that two military fighters intercepted the plane and escorted it to land at an airport on Sydney's outskirts.
