The first Saudi relief plane arrived here today, carrying more than 72 tons of food materials, medical supplies, tents and blankets. The relief plane was received by Saudi ambassador to Mauritania Hamad bin Abdullah Al-Okeil and a number of Mauritanian officials. In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Al-Okeil said the relief assistance embodies the humanitarian nature of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and his keenness on extending assistance to his brothers throughout the world. He noted that Saudi Arabia and Mauritania are linked with bonds of religion and history. The Saudi relief assistance is composed of five planes with 350 tons of various relief materials. In addition to the relief materials, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has ordered to provide Mauritania with a grant of $ 20 million. Mauritania has recently faced the menace of floods in some of its regions due to torrential rainfalls.
