The death toll from Hurricane Felix has risen to more than 40, with rescue workers continuing to search the sea and isolated communities for the many people that remain unaccounted for.The one-time Category 5 storm, which weakened as it made landfall and moved across Nicaragua, has nonetheless caused extensive damage. As Hurricane Felix's remnants poured rain across Central America, Hurricane Henriette hit Mexico, making landfall with top sustained winds of 75 miles per hour before weakening as it headed inland.Henriette faded into a tropical depression and was further dissipating, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. Its remnants are expected to produce several inches of rain in New Mexico.Henriette is thought responsible for at least nine deaths on the Pacific coast of Mexico, which was dealing with the second hurricane to hit in a little over a week.In Nicaragua, the effects of Hurricane Felix were made more serious by the inaccessibility of many of the affected towns. The U.S. Southern Command has sent the USS Wasp to Nicaragua to help coordinate U.S. relief efforts. Venezuela also sent aid and 57 Cuban doctors and nurses already in Nicaragua on medical missions were helping as well.In Honduras, two deaths were attributed to Felix, and nearly 30,000 people were evacuated, with nearly 10,000 seeking refuge in government shelters, the Associated Press reported.
