Pakistan firmly believes that respect for diversity of cultures, tolerance, dialogue and cooperation, in a climate of mutual trust and understanding are among the best guarantees for international peace and security. This was stated by Pakistan's Ambassador to Iran Shafkat Saeed during a speech at the Ministerial Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on Human Rights and Cultural Diversity in Tehran, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported. He said President General Pervez Musharraf has proposed the strategy of 'Enlightened Moderation' which aims at fighting extremism and curbing cultural and religious intolerance. "We are co-sponsors of the initiatives to hold interfaith conference in New York on the sidelines of forthcoming UN General Assembly Session," he added. "At the regional level, we actively support and participate in initiatives to promote interfaith harmony and understanding. NAM s vision on cultural diversity and human rights is, therefore, very close to our own," he noted.
