The 128th session of the Arab League's Ministerial Council started here today under the chairmanship of Algerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Mourad Medelci. The delegation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is led by Dr. Nizar Obaid Madani, The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs. In addition to the Arab Foreign Ministers and the Secretary General of the League, the opening session was attended by Comoros President Ahmad Abdullah Sambi and Karen AbuZayd, the General Commissioner of the United Nation Relief and Works Program for Palestinian Refugees in The Near East (UNRWA). The session will discuss various aspects of the joint Arab action in political, economic, social and security affairs; reports on the Arab national security and the preparation of the Arab Economic summit which will take place in the State of Kuwait. It will also address the support of the Palestinian Authority budget, the situation in the Golan Heights, the solidarity with Lebanon and the issue of the UAE islands occupied by Iran in the Arabian Gulf, the rejection of sanctions against Syria, the support of peace and development in Sudan, Somalia and the Comoros Islands. The danger of acquisition of weapons by Israel on the Arab national security and ways of combating international terrorism will also be taken up by the session. In addition, the discussions will also focus on the American proposal for the convening of an international peace conference next autumn in order to form a unified Arab position towards this meeting.
