Seven people died Monday during a police raid against drug crime in the slum Fumace, in the Rio de Janeiro neighbourhood of Realengo, DPA reported. Police chief Allan Turnowski said close to 100 officers who took part in the raid were met by weapons fire when they arrived in the favela (slum) early Monday. So far, only one of the dead has been identified, but the police claimed all casualties were linked to a criminal gang that deals drugs in the favela.
