The two foreign sailors who died in a collision between an Israeli cargo ship and a Cypriot passenger ship off the coast of the northern Israeli port city of Haifa were an Indonesian and a Ukrainian national, Israeli media reported Friday, according to DPA. Initial reports had said the two crew members were Slovaks. The bodies of the two were found late Friday morning after a search effort of some 12 hours. The Cypriot passenger ship, Salamis Glory, had collided with the Israeli cargo ship, Shelly, a few kilometres offshore around 10 pm (1900 GMT) Thursday. Israeli authorities were still investigating whether the Cypriot passenger ship exiting Haifa port had sailed into the anchored cargo ship because of a fault in the Cypriot ship's steering system or due to human error. The Cypriot ship and its passengers were unharmed. But the Israeli cargo ship with foreign crew members began sinking immediately, witnesses said. Thirteen crew members jumped off board, 11 of whom were pulled out of the water and rescued unharmed.
