Sudan expelled the top Canadian diplomat and the European Commission envoy from the country for what was described as «meddling in its affairs,» the state news agency reported, according to AP. The two diplomats were summoned separately to the foreign ministry, which declared each a «persona non grata,» and issued expulsion notes, Ali Al Sadeq, the foreign ministry spokesman, was quoted as saying Thursday by the official SUNA news agency. «We have received some indications from the Sudanese government that our head of delegation is no longer welcome in Sudan and we are now trying to sort out with the Sudanese authorities how we can settle this matter,» said Commission spokeswoman Antonia Mochan from Brussels on Friday. She confirmed the official concerned is the head of the Commission delegation Kent Degerfelt, who Mochan said was a long-serving EU aid official. «At the time when we received the letter, he was on holiday and he's still on holiday, so he's not in Sudan.» Canadian Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Rodney Moore identified the Canadian diplomat as Nuala Lawlor, acting charge d'affaires.
