European Union-funded fuel shipments to Gaza's main power station resumed Wednesday morning, and officials said power would return to the strip within hours after two trucks arrived at the plant which produces 40 per cent of the salient's energy, reported the DPA. The station received 360,000 litres of petrol, enough to keep it going until Friday, Kan'an Ebid, deputy director of the Palestinian Power Authority, told reporters. He urged the Palestinian Authority to ensure the fuel continued to enter the Gaza Strip. Gaza had faced a massive electricity shortage after the EU, which buys the fuel from an Israeli supplier and transports it to the strip. However, the European Commission said Tuesday that it had received assurances that measures would be put in place to ensure the money would not be diverted to Hamas, which now controls the Gaza Strip.
