OPEC's humanitarian arm is sending US$200,000 (¤148,000) to help victims of the deadly earthquake that ravaged parts of Peru. The OPEC Fund for International Development said Monday that the funds _ to be channeled through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent _ would be used to buy essential supplies and pay for emergency work. Last week's magnitude-8 quake killed at least 540 people, injured more than 1,500 others and left tens of thousands of others homeless. Electricity and communications have been disrupted in several regions, officials said. OPEC said it has sent US$6.2 million (¤4.6 million) in emergency aid to disaster areas worldwide since December 2005.
