German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit China next week to step up bilateral relations and celebrate 35th anniversary of Germany-China diplomatic ties. Merkel will visit China from August 26 to 29 at the invitation of Premier Wen Jiabao, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in a statement. This is Merkel's second China tour since she took the chancellor's post. During her four-day official visit, she will attend the opening ceremony of a series of cultural activities which will be held in major Chinese cities including Nanjing, Guangzhou and Chengdu to commemorate 35 years of Germany-China diplomatic ties, according to a report of the Press Trust of India (PTI).
