Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri has left for Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to represent President General Pervez Musharraf at the 7th Shanghai Cooperative Council (SCO) summit, according to an official statement. Kasuri will make a statement at the plenary session and is expected to call on President of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev. The summit is being attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Tajikistan President Emomalii Rahmanov and Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov. The SCO covers one of the largest geographic spaces in the regional organizations. It was set up in 2001 to promote confidence building and enhance security amongst member states. The Council of Heads of States deals with strategic direction and security. Member states of the SCO will be represented by the Head of States while Pakistan will be represented by the Foreign Minister.
