The world's oldest person is a 114-year-old American woman, a spokeswoman for the Guinness Book of World Records said in London Wednesday. The new record holder is Edna Parker from Shelbyville in the US state of Indiana. The previous oldest person, Japanese flower-seller Yone Minagawa, died Monday aged 114 - she was four months older than Parker, DPA reported. Parker, a former teacher, is followed in the age stakes by Japan's Tomoji Tanaba, 111. She lives in a nursing home along with another world record holder - the world's tallest woman Sandy Allen (2.31 metres). Parker likes to read poetry. Her granddaughter said she still has a "sharp intellect" and is "very active."
