Mt. Soputan which is located between Minahasa and Minahasa Tenggara districts continued to spew ash on Tuesday, ANTARA quoted an official as saying. "The mountain still showed activity until 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday and spewed hot lava afterwards," volcano monitoring post officer Sandy told ANTARA News by phone here Tuesday. The 1,783-meter-high mountain began producing hot cloud and ash at 5.30 Tuesday morning. The local administration has put the mountain and its immediate surroundings in a red alert or level-3 status and asked people living on the slopes of the volcano to keep a close watch on the mountain`s activity. "There has been no call on villagers to evacuate since Mt. Soputan`s eruption last Saturday. They have only been asked not to till their land and work in the field," Sandy said. The ash thrown up by the volcano was blown by the wind in southwestwerly direction and fell on nearby plantations and villages.
