Britain said Wednesday it was easing a nationwide ban on moving livestock that was imposed after an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease, but authorities ordered a precautionary cull of livestock at a third farm where the disease was suspected, AP reported. Chief veterinarian Debby Reynolds said farmers outside the immediately affected area would be able to send animals to abattoirs for slaughter from midnight. Reynolds said that as a precaution she had ordered the slaughter of livestock on a third farm adjacent to a farm affected by the disease. She said tests were being conducted to determine whether any more animals were infected. The risk of the disease of spreading to the rest of the country from the 10-kilometer (six-mile) surveillance zone was «low, but not negligible,» Reynolds said.
