One robber was killed Saturday night in a shootout between a group of masked thieves and Serbian police forces near the border of Serbia and its southern province of Kosovo, DPA reported. The Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry stated that a group of about 10 bandits clad in black uniforms and ski masks were robbing travellers on a highway near the Kosovo border. Police stated that the assailants shot at the front tires of the victims, after which they removed the passengers from their vehicles and took their money and valuable possessions. "The robbers were stopping citizens of both Serbian and Albanian nationality, threatening them and ordering them around in poor Serbian," Serbian Interior Ministry Dragan Jocic said. When gendarmerie units, called by the local police for back up, arrived, heavy gunfire was exchanged between the criminals and police forces. One of the gang members was killed in the exchange while the rest fled the scene.
