Germany is providing 500,000 euros (685,000 dollars) to help the victims of tropical flooding in Bangladesh, DPA quoted the Ministry for Economic Assistance as saying today. "The situation is dramatic for the flood victims," Economic Assistance Minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul said. "The people of Bangladesh are in urgent need of help." The ministry said the money would go to the World Food Programme so it could send extra supplies of food and drinking water to the affected areas. More than 70 people have died in Bangladesh as a result of the flooding, which has affected 20 million people in the country as well as in Indian and Nepal. Millions of Bangladeshis were living outdoors after the floods, triggered by heavy monsoon rains, washed away their dwellings.
