Darfur's splintered rebel groups met Saturday for talks in the Arusha region of north Tanzania four days after the United Nations and African Union (AU) agreed to send a peacekeeping mission to Sudan's troubled Darfur province, according to DPA. The talks are being led by the UN and AU and are expected to last until Sunday. The talks were a precondition set by the Sudanese government in Khartoum for a peace agreement. The aim was to come to a common agreement on their position, UN special envoy Jan Eliasson told Britain's BBC news channel. Negotiations with Khartoum could then start within the next four weeks.
