Lebanese soldiers fought pitched battles Saturday with Muslim militants inside the Palestinian refugee camp of Nahr al- Bared, while a power plant was hit by Katyusha rockets from positions inside the camp, according to DPA. The heavy shelling on areas inside the camp in northern Lebanon set off several fires, sending columns of black smoke into the sky. An army spokesman said the soldiers were advancing deeper inside the camp and managed to take control of three new buildings where Fatah al-Islam militants were holed up. Meanwhile, fresh Katyusha rockets fired by the militants fell near the Deir Ammar power plant, inflicting more damage on the facility. The power plant had already lost some of its production Thursday because repair teams were unable to reach the plant to fix what was damaged. The fighting at Nahr al-Bared has caused severe electricity shortages across Lebanon in recent weeks because ships have been unable to deliver oil to Deir Ammar.
