A fire that destroyed a two-story building in western Slovakia a day earlier killed at least nine people, The Associated Press quoted an official as saying today. The blaze broke out Friday in the town of Kysucke Nove Mesto and caused a collapse of the building _ a town-owned low-budget project. Rescue workers recovered three more bodies on Saturday, bringing the death toll to nine, police spokeswoman Jana Balogova said. Two people were still missing, Balogova said. Officially, the building had some 80 residents, about two-thirds of whom were Gypsies, or Roma. Deputy mayor Jana Svrckova said earlier that 64 people were evacuated. Nine people were injured. Authorities were investigating the cause of the fire, Balogova said.
