A British geologist and a Congolese soldier were killed when an oil exploration boat operated by a Canadian firm, Heritage Oil Corporation, was attacked by Congolese government forces on Lake Albert Friday, a Ugandan government newspaper reported, according to dpa. The attack occurred near Rukwanzi island. The Saturday edition of The New Vision quoted a regional army spokesman lieutenant Tabaro Kiconco as saying: "I can confirm they killed one Briton. The security company guarding them responded." The New Vision quoted a British embassy official as saying: "The (the dead man) was British. It appears he died as a result of bullet wounds. I do not want to give details at this stage." Heritage Oil along and the British-based Tullow Oil have been exploring for oil along in western Uganda since 1997.
