Vela International Marine Limited recently received Devlin Awards for 17 of its tankers — evidence that Vela employees take to heart the statement by company president and CEO Saleh B. K‘aki, who said that excellence is the “ability to get it right the first time, every time.” The Jones F. Devlin Award, named after a ship captain who devoted his entire professional life to safety at sea, is bestowed on merchant vessels from all industries that have operated for two full years or more without a crew member suffering a lost- time injury. Three levels of achievement are recognized: a basic two-year award, a three-year award and a four-year award. A special award is given annually to ships with five or more years of accident-free operation. --MORE
