The Jordanian Astronomical Society has called on all Arab and Islamic countries to approve and use Hijri calendar officially instead of the current use of Gregorian calendar. The Society, in a recent report to the Jordanian Ministry of Awqaf (endowments) & Islamic Affairs, reiterated that it is highly appropriate for all Arab and Islamic countries to approve the official usage of Hijri Calendar, which will in turn, facilitate the recognition of the beginning of Hijri months as the Hijri Calendar is the only source to indicate Islamic festivities including the beginning and the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan and the Two Eids. "From logical and ethical point of view, all Arab and Islamic countries are urged to opt for an immediate approval of Hijri calendar in commemoration of the Hijrah of Prophet Mohammed (SAW) which will in return have a positive impact for all Arabs and Muslims in these countries."
