Germany striker Miroslav Klose netted the winner on Saturday as Bayern Munich defeated Schalke 1-0 to win the German League Cup for the sixth time, DPA reported. Klose, one of Munich's major summer hirings in a move from Werder Bremen, was on target just before the half-hour mark, tapping into the empty net after confusion in the Schalke defence. Munich dominated the entire match in Leipzig even though they were playing without their other big-name newcomers, as France winger Franck Ribery and Italy forward Luca Toni were injured. Munich went on an unprecedented spending spree after coming only fourth last season, dishing out 70 million euros for new players. They won the six-team League Cup, an unofficial pre-season event, by beating all three teams ranked ahead of them in the last Bundesliga season, champions VfB Stuttgart, Schalke and Werder Bremen. The German season kicks off next week with the first cup round, with the Bundesliga start set for August 10.
