Bulgaria said Wednesday it was considering cancelling 54 million dollars in Libyan debt after five Bulgarian nurses and a doctor convicted of deliberately infecting 400 children with HIV were freed from custody in Libya, according to dpa. The cancellation of the debt could provide Bulgaria with the possibility of participation in an international fund through which the families of the dead children could receive support, said Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev. The final decision however had not yet been made. The eight-year ordeal of the six Bulgarian medics came to an emotional end on Tuesday after they were freed from Libyan custody and reunited with their families in Sofia. The six medics were undergoing medical tests in a military medical facility in Sofia Wednesday. Doctors expected that they might start showing signs of psychological trauma as a result of the hardships endured during their time in captivity. The six - five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor who had taken up Bulgarian citizenship - were also formally pardoned by Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov in a move seen as acceptance of their complete innocence.
