Nigeria's President Umaru Yar'Adua is set to swear in his cabinet Thursday, nearly two months after he became leader of Africa's most populous country, DPA QUOTED his spokesman as saying Wednesday. Senators approved 39 of 40 ministers in Yar'Adua's government Tuesday, but rejected Bode Augusto, considered a prime candidate for finance minister, and did not give any reason for the disapproval. "President Yar'Adua will swear in ministers who got senate approval at the council chamber on Thursday," spokesman Olusegun Adeniyi said. "Portfolios to be assigned to each of the ministers will be known on Thursday," he added. Yar'Adua, who took power May 29, appointed two opposition politicians from the All Nigeria Peoples Party, which has agreed to join a government of national unity. Senators, who are required by law to confirm the ministerial appointments, described the process as fair and transparent.
