President Paul Biya said Sunday he was confident his ruling party would maintain its overwhelming majority in parliament following legislative and municipal elections, AP reported. Biya's ruling party was widely expected to win the poll and dominate power as it has for decades. «What I expect right now is a comfortable majority, which will enable me to build and modernize the country,» Biya told reporters after casting his ballot in Yaounde. Biya's Cameroon People's Democratic Movement currently holds 149 seats in the 180-seat legislature. Two opposition parties hold 27 seats and the rest are held by parties allied to the ruling party. Biya's party also holds 290 of the nation's 336 mayoral seats.
