Colombia on Thursday extradited to the United States the former boss of the North of the Valley drug cartel Luis Hernando Gomez Bustamante, known as Rasguno, official sources said, according to dpa. Rasguno, who had been deported from Cuba to Colombia in February, was placed in the custody of agents of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in Bogota, who were waiting to take him to the US. The former drug boss, 49, is wanted by US authorities for drug trafficking and money laundering. Gomez Bustamante was taken from Combita high-security prison to Bogota amid a tight security deployment by DEA agents, Colombian prison officials, police and the army. When he got to the Catam military base in Bogota, Rasguno was evaluated by doctors. The former drug boss was captured in Cuba in 2004 as he tried to leave the Caribbean island with a forged passport. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe signed the extradition warrant last week.
