Firefighters were battling to control a blaze in the Turkey's Mediterranean region of Alanya on Monday that had destroyed 200 hectares of forest and farm land, the Anadolu news agency reported. Three villages were evacuated and 20 houses destroyed in the blaze that started late Sunday night. The fire was reported to have been brought under control Monday morning but soon started up again owing to high winds. Firefighters were being supported by water-dumping helicopters sent to the area from the nearby city of Antalya.
