The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Paraguay have decided to establish diplomatic relation at ambassadorial level, effective from last Friday, the UAE news agency "WAM" reported today. A joint statement was signed yesterday at the UAE Mission here by the UAE Permanent Ambassador for the United Nations, Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi and his Paraguayan counterpart Eladio Loizaga. The statement, which was tabled at the UN in three languages (Arabic, English and Spanish), said the governments of the UAE and Paraguay had taken this important move out of the firm desire to boost bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation and mutual understanding on the principles of the UN Charter and international law and conventions for maintaining international peace and security, equality among nations and for respecting national sovereignty and unity of other countries and non-interference in their internal affairs. The statement indicated that the diplomatic bonds will be established as per the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations signed on 18 April 1961. Al Shamsi said later that signing of the statement was a major step towards further enhancement of UAE-Paraguay relations in political, economic, trade and cultural domains.
