British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to visit Berlin for talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday in his first trip abroad since taking over from Tony Blair, DPA QUOTED a German government spokesman as saying Friday. European affairs and international issues will be the main items on the agenda of the evening meeting at the federal chancellery, spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm said. Merkel invited Brown to visit Germany when she congratulated him on becoming prime minister on June 27. In her message, the chancellor expressed hope that under Brown the governments of Britain and Germany would continue their close relationship. She said this was particularly important for the wellbeing of Europe and good trans-Atlantic relations.
