An avalanche in central Switzerland has killed six mountain climbers, AP QUOTED sources of Swiss rescue services as saying Thursday. Two teams of three climbers were hit by an avalanche on the southwest flank of the Jungfrau peak, about 90 kilometers (55 miles) southeast of the capital Bern, Rene Feuz of the rescue station in Lauterbrunnen told The Associated Press. Earlier media reports had cited emergency services as saying seven people were killed. The climbers were scaling the 4,158-meter (13,642-foot) mountain via a standard route, Feuz said. They had reached a height of 3,800 meters (12,470 feet) by 10 a.m. (0800 GMT) when fresh snow dislodged, sending them plummeting several hundred meters (feet) into the valley below, he said. The bodies of all six have been recovered, Feuz said.
