A schoolbus overturned in the Indian capital New Delhi on Monday, killing a man and injuring 24 children in the accident, police officials said, according to dpa. The bus turned turtle after hitting a road-divider in the east Preet Vihar area of the city, crushing to death a 50-year-old man, later identified as the guardian of a student. "Initial investigations show that the driver was at fault as he was over-speeding the vehicle," said Jai Kishan, a police inspector. "The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident," he added. The police official said of the 24 injured students, 18 were discharged after first aid while six children were still undergoing treatment. The condition of one of the students was described as "serious" by doctors. Accidents involving buses are on the rise in Delhi in the recent days. On Sunday, a teenager and a woman were killed in accidents in the city. Studies have found that most of the crashes in the Indian capital are due to reckless driving and negligence of safety norms.
