At least 23 people have been killed and 11 others wounded when their mud houses were washed away in landslides caused by flash floods in Pakistan's tribal Kohistan area, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported today. "It has rained heavily here and this caused flash floods and landslides. Several houses were washed away last night and we have reports that some 23 people were killed," a local police officer Shoaib Ahmed said. He said 10 people belonged to one family were killed due to the flash floods. "Those killed include women and children and we are still trying to recover their bodies." The official said the tragic incidents occurred in the Dachi and Kayal Nallah villages. He said the 11 injured had been shifted to hospitals for treatment. Heavy rain and flash floods have caused a lot of damage and destruction in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province and Northern Areas in recent weeks with the government still trying to access the factual loss of lives and damage to property and crops. Kohistan is near Gilgit.
